Follow-up Post – Your Questions Answered!!

Hi Everyone

We won’t always be doing this, but given the number of great questions, we thought we would write an additional blog to answer and in some cases, illustrate our answers. We will copy the question and then provide an answer. We have also added some of your comments from today’s session.

here we go, responses where possible in green

visual shared with class:

My mic has been giving me some problems but one thing that stuck out in my mind was the idea of bettering ourselves as opposed to the usual approach that we will be bettering the students. I thought it was important that Geordie highlighted the negative impact of the education system and the way students are spoken to. My brother experienced this first hand as he was told not to go to university

If we students wanted to continue an informal discussion, the Discord server is a great platform, and I can help anyone who needs it through navigating it

I feel like some people are unfamiliar with platforms like discord, but maybe a small trial can be done these first couple weeks and more people can join if it is a success

How about a different platform where we can easily access and do discussions more freely? Discord/ Facebook group?

We will let you set that up unless you want us to do this for the class. Right now we have the watercooler discussion group and Teams – happy to do this if that is what people want, but still not sure how people want to do.

What is the purpose of the book club?

The book club was assigned as content by Tracy – all 3150 students are doing this at some point. We started ours earlier

Where do we post the response to the Daniel article?

We have added in everything you need to do in the checklist for the week – it is also included with this blog

also, we post everything in the checklist to the calendar here

is there a difference between learning log and reading log

Our mistake – they should all be called learning logs

do we post the response to two articles ( Professional Learning Communities, Collaborative Teacher Inquiry), article in the same place as the Daniel response? or is the chambers article due there?

There is a Learning Log area for each response that you need to do and we try to put links into your particular Learning Log like this:

Will there be an assignment or reading logs linked to the DiAngelo book at some point?

other teachers in UCC are working on this

My understanding was that 31501 is the fall portion of the course, and 31502 is the winter section.  I’m a bit confused because I am told that the current course material can be found in 31502 on brightspace and not 31501.  I’m just wondering why that is.

Yes, this is confusing, but we can’t do much about this.

this is our course – UCC

this is the Brightspace course for the rest of 3150 – don’t go there

having both courses available and being updated is extremely confusing

yes, we know

Would it be possible to post the answers to questions on Brightspace or somewhere that we can all see them? I think a lot of us have struggled with confusion about which courses to look at in Brightspace

yes, that is why we are doing this

so just ignore the PED31501?

yes please
